Medicine for more quality of life

Orthopedics is a medical specialty that deals with the treatment of congenital malformations, the prevention and therapy of chronic diseases, as well as injuries to the musculoskeletal system. A renowned team of specialists for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery at ATOMOS Clinic Währing treats patients with the most modern, individually tailored therapy methods.

In our orthopedic outpatient clinic, we conduct the following medical services:

  • INITIAL CONSULTATION AND ANAMNESIS
  • PHYSICAL EXAMINATION
  • Clarification of possible treatment methods
  • SURGERY PREPARATION AND CLARIFICATION
  • Follow-up examinations and further treatment planning

Conservative or Surgical

The orthopedics at ATOMOS Klinik Währing offers a comprehensive range of treatments for a variety of complaints, which – after careful clarification – are addressed with surgical or conservative treatments.

Postoperatively and adjunctively, we offer physiotherapy as well as therapeutic massages in-house.

CRUCIATE LIGAMENT
Cruciate ligaments are crucial for knee stability. Their rupture can lead to instability and subsequent injuries, so treatment requires perfection.

MENISCUS
The menisci are the shock absorbers in the knee joint. An injury is painful and requires treatment. We rely on gentle treatment methods.

CARTILAGE
Cartilage is one of the most important building blocks of the knee joint. We focus on preserving the joint cartilage so that a pain-free life is possible.

JOINT PRESERVATION
Joint preservation is our speciality. The preservation of cartilage, ligaments and menisci plays a major role in this. This is a major concern for us.

ARTHROSCOPY
If we have to operate, we do it gently. Minimally invasive and gentle surgical techniques on the knee are the focus of our Knee Competence Centre.

Hip Joint Replacement
The surgery is performed at ATOMOS Klinik Währing using a minimally invasive technique.

Knee Joint Replacement
The surgery is performed using standard technique, or upon request, using individually manufactured cutting blocks. Depending on the severity of the wear and tear of the knee joint, the respective model variants are used for optimal anchoring of the prosthesis components and for stable and axially correct reconstruction of the knee joint. Axial misalignments can also be compensated during the artificial knee joint replacement.

Surgical interventions are not always the first choice. Therefore, orthopedics at ATOMOS Klinik Währing offers its patients a comprehensive conservative treatment spectrum:

  • Arthrosis treatment (cartilage build-up/infiltrations)
  • Gold implantation (possible in almost all joints)
  • Spinal diagnostics and treatment
    (including epidural infiltration)
  • Pain therapy for the entire musculoskeletal system
    (manual therapy, PRP)
  • Conservative treatment of all foot problems (in cooperation
    with orthotists and orthopedic shoemakers)
  • Cooperation with experienced physiotherapists
  • Infant hip ultrasound and any necessary treatment
    (mother-child passport examinations)
  • Pediatric and adolescent orthopedics
  • Osteoporosis (diagnostics/therapy)
X-rays Gold implants

Mode of Action:
Gold is one of the oldest medications in mankind.
It is used by doctors today in dentistry, the treatment of rheumatic diseases, and homeopathy. Gold prevents the release of a protein from the cell nucleus of immune cells, which triggers an inflammatory reaction. By reducing inflammation, pain is reduced, and mobility is improved, avoiding compensatory postures and leading to tissue regeneration. There are numerous successes in inflammatory joint processes and arthrosis complaints.

Treatment Procedure:
After appropriate clarification whether the patients’ complaints can be treated with gold implantation, individual gold pieces (2x1mm) are placed around the affected joints in local anesthesia, i.e., the gold pieces do not lie in the joint itself but in the joint’s capsule. No antibiotics are used. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis. In some cases, an image converter (X-ray device) is used for better localization and placement of the gold pieces.

Areas of Application:
Gold implantation is suitable for the treatment of degenerative (wear-related) changes in almost all joints,

including:

  • Spine (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar)
  • Hip joints
  • Knee joints
  • Ankle joints
  • Foot and toe joints
  • Shoulder joints
  • Elbow joints
  • Hand and finger joints

The symptoms of degenerative changes are modified by the gold implantation. The changes themselves cannot be reversed by this.

Side Effects:
No side effects have been reported so far, as it is 24-carat gold.
Sometimes a temporary swelling or pain in the area of the injection sites may occur. Bruising can also occur.

The costs for the treatment are not covered by statutory health insurance.
Whether private health insurance covers the costs should be clarified by the patient before the procedure.

Treatment with Platelet-Rich Plasma, also known as autologous blood therapy.

The injection of a blood plasma concentrate, which is rich in platelets (thrombocytes) and derived from the patient’s blood, facilitates easier and faster tissue regeneration. These platelets are activated outside the body and release proteins, such as growth factors, which support the healing process of various types of tissue. This is particularly beneficial for painful inflammatory processes that accompany injuries and often necessitate the use of cortisone. PRP treatment responds well to such conditions.

PRP stimulates cell metabolism and the formation of small blood vessels and leads to a reduction of bacterial growth. Together, these effects create favorable conditions for the effective regeneration of damaged tissue structures, contributing to a faster and improved healing process.

Examples of Applications:

  • Painful, mild to moderate arthrosis of joints
  • Injuries and/or degeneration of tendons (tendinopathies)
  • Epicondylitis, patella, Achilles tendon, rotator cuff
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sprains/strains
  • Chronic tendon injuries
  • Injuries to ligaments and muscles

Treatment Procedure:

  • Blood withdrawal from a vein
  • Separation process using gentle centrifugation to extract the body’s own active substances (proteins)
  • Sterile injection into the affected joint or tissue

Advantages of PRP Therapy:

  • High purity and high concentration of platelets
  • Use of only endogenous substances
  • No risk of allergy
  • Quick and outpatient treatment
  • No unwanted side effects or complications
