Medicine & music

Art and medicine have always been closely linked. The term ‘healing art’ still used today, reflects the medicine’s self-conception as a part of artistic existence. Among the most significant doctors in the Western world were gifted musicians, such as the legendary Viennese doctor Theodor Billroth.

Music, as the unique art form capable of directly touching human hearts, occupies a special position. Oscar Wilde once said: “Music is the most perfect type of art: it can never reveal its ultimate secret.”

Music, as the “world language of the soul”, has found its way into therapy programs for various diseases, considering modern research and oldest traditions.

A cooperation between ATOMOS Klinik Währing and the traditional company Bösendorfer, founded in July 1828 in Vienna, embodies this connection between medicine and music. Since early 2024, a Bösendorfer grand piano, Model Grand Piano 214 VC, has been located in the artfully renovated event room at Kreuzgasse 17.
This collaboration aims to provide space for events of all kinds that connect music and medicine, inviting doctors and musicians to participate.
