A look inside the body
Endoscopy, or internal viewing, is one of the most innovative fields of medicine. The term ‘endoscopy’ means ‘looking inside the human body’. This type of examination, available at the ATOMOS Clinic Währing’s Endoscopy Center, reveals complaints and internal diseases that are not visible to doctors using other imaging diagnostic methods such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), or X-rays. Endoscopy is an important and recommended examination for colorectal cancer prevention (recommended in Austria from the age of 50).
Dr. med. Behrooz Salehi, a specialist in General Surgery, leads the endoscopy clinic at the ATOMOS Clinic Währing. The experienced specialist in diagnostic endoscopy holds the Quality Certificate for Colorectal Cancer Prevention.

DIAGNOSTICS: ENDOSCOPY
In endoscopy, there are two different types that allow precise diagnosis and therapy through imaging material in the form of photos and videos:
STOMACHOSCOPY (GASTROSCOPY)
A gastroscopy is performed to examine the stomach. It can reveal stomach ulcers or pathological tissue changes such as stomach cancer.
ENTEROSCOPY (COLONOSCOPY)
A colonoscopy is often used in colorectal cancer screening. In addition, a colonoscopy can also be useful for complaints such as persistent diarrhea, blood in the stool, or suspicion of colon polyps, inflammations, or ulcers.
A combination of these two procedures can also be performed at the ATOMOS Clinic Währing.

SURGERY
Safety and comfort are particularly important to us at the Endoscopy Center at ATOMOS Klinik Währing. Therefore, we perform colonoscopy using sedoanalgesia. This is a light anesthesia that puts you into a sleep-like state for the duration of the examination. This short anesthesia allows for a pain-free endoscopy.
For gastroscopy, the throat is also numbed with a spray. The examination takes about 20–40 minutes. You will rest in our recovery room for at least half an hour after the endoscopy. After that you are able to go home. The anesthesia team at ATOMOS Klinik Währing is available for endoscopic procedures under anesthesia or in deep sedation.
