Few areas of medicine are as focussed on long-term care as gynaecology. Many gynaecologists look after their patients for decades.
In order to fulfil this requirement, ATOMOS Klinik Währing offers comprehensive medical care in the field of women’s health.
In addition to initial examinations, annual check-ups and general advice, the menopause centre and surgical treatment of gynaecological conditions, in particular endometriosis, prolapse problems and tumours, are a particular focus.
Diagnostic endoscopies of the uterus and minor procedures such as curretages and conisations can also be carried out at the ATOMOS Klinik Währing without complications and on request on a day-case basis.
DR. SARA DUNJA PEMPELFORT
Surgical interventions with a focus on laparoscopy and endometriosis
Specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics
Endometriosis is one of the most common benign diseases in young women of childbearing age. Endometriosis can occur superficially on the mucous membrane of the abdominal cavity, as well as deep in the organs (uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina, bowel, bladder, uterine appendages, ureter).
This usually causes severe pain during menstruation, but it can also occur independently of menstruation.
Endometriosis can usually be diagnosed by means of a targeted ultrasound examination or during a diagnostic laparoscopy.
Depending on the symptoms and life planning (desire to have children), a selection of the optimal and individual treatments is possible after precise clarification (gynaecological laparoscopy, medicinal pain therapy, hormone therapy, TCM, phytotherapy, osteopathy, etc…).
Advisable for investigating complaints that remain inconclusive with ultrasound or computerised tomography. This minimally invasive method, also known as ‘buttonhole surgery’, enables almost scarless operations on the ovaries, uterus and bladder. Laparoscopy is also useful for uterine diseases such as fibroids, fallopian tube and ovarian diseases, as well as endometriosis.
In this operation, only the fibroids are removed and the uterus remains intact. The operation can be performed via the vagina – hysteroscopic myomectomy or via laparoscopy – laparoscopic myomectomy. Removal of the fibroids through an abdominal incision is rarely performed as this operation is more stressful. This method is only necessary for very large fibroids or a uterus enlarged by many fibroids.
During a hysterectomy, the uterus is partially or completely removed to relieve pain caused by diseases or injuries to the uterus. A hysterectomy can be useful in the case of cancer of the uterus or ovaries. A distinction is made between partial removal of the uterus (cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries are retained), a total hysterectomy, where the uterus including the cervix is removed (fallopian tubes and ovaries remain) and a radical hysterectomy, where the body and cervix of the uterus, the neighbouring section of the vagina and sometimes also the fallopian tubes and ovaries in the pelvis are removed.
SURGICAL PROCEDURE:
The most common reasons for a hysterectomy are:
The clarification and treatment of bleeding abnormalities (diagnostic or surgical hysteroscopy) can be carried out in our day clinic on an outpatient basis (without an overnight stay). The same applies to the surgical removal of suspicious tissue from the cervix (conisation) and purely diagnostic endoscopies of the uterus.
The procedure, including short anaesthesia, takes approx. 15-30 minutes. After a few hours in our day clinic, you can be picked up again by your relatives.
An anaesthetist is present in the operating theatre during the entire procedure.
Unlike in surgeries or outpatient centres, the clinic’s intensive medical care is available to you at all times. An inpatient stay, including an overnight stay, can also be added spontaneously if medically necessary.
In the event of suspected cancer, the histological findings can be discussed with your attending physician in our surgery centre 1-2 weeks after your procedure.

DR. DANIELA FERENCI
Head of Menopause Centre
Specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, specialising in menopause
The menopause is the end of a woman’s fertile phase. The ovaries no longer produce oestradiol or progesterone. Even the years before, during the perimenopause, there are changes in the menstrual cycle and possibly physical symptoms. This is a natural process. Nevertheless, many women experience physical symptoms during this time, some of them are severe and affect their quality of life.
At the ATOMOS Clinic Währing Menopause Centre, headed by Dr. Daniela Ferenci, a specialist in gynaecology, women can find advice and help during this phase. Various options are offered here for treating unpleasant symptoms. Women can find support and therapeutic help in order to live a healthy life during and after this phase of transition.
During the menopause there is a wide range of symptoms regarding the individuality of a woman. Therefore it is important to find a treatmant that targets the very personal relevant symptoms, is holistically orientated and offers the best possible support for each woman in her individual situation.
Possible symptoms of the menopause include mood swings, hot flushes, sleep disorders, unwanted weight gain, hair loss, loss of libido, vaginal dryness and the associated pain during sexual intercourse.
Hormone replacement therapy with bioidentical hormones
Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy refers to the use of hormone preparations that are identical to those in the human body and are therefore particularly well tolerated.
Treatment with herbal preparations/phytohormones
Phytohormones are messenger substances that occur in plants and promote growth and development. Their mode of action is similar to that of hormones in the human body. They play a major role in the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
The Menopause Café takes place once a month in our clinic’s lecture hall. Dr. Daniela Ferenci invites women to an open consultation in small groups of 10 to 12 people to exchange ideas and get answers and tips on all aspects of the menopause.
You can find the dates of the event and the link to register under “News”.
