Orthopedics is a medical specialty that deals with the treatment of congenital malformations, the prevention and therapy of chronic diseases, as well as injuries to the musculoskeletal system. A renowned team of specialists for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery at ATOMOS Clinic Währing treats patients with the most modern, individually tailored therapy methods.
The orthopedics at ATOMOS Klinik Währing offers a comprehensive range of treatments for a variety of complaints, which – after careful clarification – are addressed with surgical or conservative treatments.
Postoperatively and adjunctively, we offer physiotherapy as well as therapeutic massages in-house.
Hip Joint Replacement
The surgery is performed at ATOMOS Klinik Währing using a minimally invasive technique. This means that no muscles are cut or injured, as the implants are inserted between two muscles. In addition, the length of the skin incision is significantly shorter than with traditional methods. Thanks to precise preoperative planning, it is possible in a high percentage of cases to optimally reconstruct the original anatomy of the hip joint with the correct tissue tension, musculature, and corresponding leg length. This provides the conditions for the complete and rapid restoration of mobility.
Knee Joint Replacement
The surgery is performed using standard technique, or upon request, using individually manufactured cutting blocks. Depending on the severity of the wear and tear of the knee joint, the respective model variants are used for optimal anchoring of the prosthesis components and for stable and axially correct reconstruction of the knee joint. Axial misalignments can also be compensated during the artificial knee joint replacement.
Surgical interventions are not always the first choice. Therefore, orthopedics at ATOMOS Klinik Währing offers its patients a comprehensive conservative treatment spectrum:
Mode of Action:
Gold is one of the oldest medications in mankind. It is used by doctors today in dentistry, the treatment of rheumatic diseases, and homeopathy. Gold prevents the release of a protein from the cell nucleus of immune cells, which triggers an inflammatory reaction. By reducing inflammation, pain is reduced, and mobility is improved, avoiding compensatory postures and leading to tissue regeneration. There are numerous successes in inflammatory joint processes and arthrosis complaints.
Treatment Procedure:
After appropriate clarification whether the patients’ complaints can be treated with gold implantation, individual gold pieces (2x1mm) are placed around the affected joints in local anesthesia, i.e., the gold pieces do not lie in the joint itself but in the joint’s capsule. No antibiotics are used. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis. In some cases, an image converter (X-ray device) is used for better localization and placement of the gold pieces.
Areas of Application:
Gold implantation is suitable for the treatment of degenerative (wear-related) changes in almost all joints,
including:
The symptoms of degenerative changes are modified by the gold implantation. The changes themselves cannot be reversed by this.
Side Effects:
No side effects have been reported so far, as it is 24-carat gold.
Sometimes a temporary swelling or pain in the area of the injection sites may occur. Bruising can also occur.
The costs for the treatment are not covered by statutory health insurance.
Whether private health insurance covers the costs should be clarified by the patient before the procedure.
Treatment with Platelet-Rich Plasma, also known as autologous blood therapy.
The injection of a blood plasma concentrate, which is rich in platelets (thrombocytes) and derived from the patient’s blood, facilitates easier and faster tissue regeneration. These platelets are activated outside the body and release proteins, such as growth factors, which support the healing process of various types of tissue. This is particularly beneficial for painful inflammatory processes that accompany injuries and often necessitate the use of cortisone. PRP treatment responds well to such conditions.
PRP stimulates cell metabolism and the formation of small blood vessels and leads to a reduction of bacterial growth. Together, these effects create favorable conditions for the effective regeneration of damaged tissue structures, contributing to a faster and improved healing process.
